The term "gearless" comes from the English gear-less meaning without a drive gear unit. Indeed, in this new era of lift equipment, actual machines do not have gears which permit the transmission from the motor to the traction pulley of the machine. This advantage affects lubrication oils because these is no traditional worn and crown wheel. This has the advantage of reducing the starting motor revolutions and as a consequence the transmission of any vibrations to the lift cabin is virtually eradicated. This technology is only possible thanks to the new generation of frequency converters and special encoders which monitors both the control and the position of the lift on every journey.

Generally (around 90% of the time), it is possible to install an elevator into an existing building. The technical solutions are restricted due to shaft sizes that may exist on site and the need to carry out additional works to facilitate the introduction of a new lift into an existing shaft. We at Omega are able to manufacture lifts to suit specific and existing shafts thus reducing the need for excessive shaft modification and therefore reducing the "knock on" effect that these works have on the overall changes to the building and hopefully reduce the builder's works costs.

The Official Periodical Inspection is the criteria that have to be passed by all elevators. This inspection is done by an external body called OCA (Control Organization Authorized), and it is their responsibility for checking if the elevator is in the perfect working condition.

The frequency of inspection depends on the Country the lift is located in and we would suggest that you check with your local office. However in Spain (for example) these timescales are:

Every 2 years for those lifts for industrial or public use.
Every 4 years, for community use elevators with more than 4 stops in total.
Every 6 years, community lifts with 4 or less stops and used for private use.
